“BOX CITY” THANKS

THANKS soooo much to all those that participated in Box City and collected sponsor money to be given to Hebron House of Hospitality, the organization that provides shelter & services for the needy and also to the Brain Injury Association of Wisconsin.  $1,015.00 was collected and will be divided between those organizations.  Many thanks too for the great job organizing Hebron’s Jeremy House shelter basement and cooking and baking for the residents.   As one of you said, “They sure don’t live like I do” and many of us take for granted the way we live and have so much.

THANKS soooo much to the chaperones for all their help, including hiding the lunches, and preparing the chili soup dinner and breakfast on Sunday morning.  But most of all, for being brave enough to sleep outside in 27 degree temperature and for losing sleep that night.  I’m sure you are recovered by now!

THANKS to the youth acting out the skit at worship service on Sunday to show one way we can be welcoming & kind to others here at St. Olaf or wherever we may be.

VISIT TO LEDESMA FUNERAL HOME IN HARTFORD

On Sunday, November 1st, the Confirmation Class and our High School Youth Group will be visiting with Greg Ledesma at his funeral home in Hartford.  Mr. Ledesma will talk with us about the subject of “loss” and how we experience loss in other ways and not only at the time of a death of someone.

Meet here at 5:45 p.m. to carpool.  We will return at approximately 7:30 p.m.

“GET REAL” Youth Group for High School youth

Meets on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at 7:30 p.m.   On November 1st, you will have the opportunity to take part in the field trip as noted above.  Meet here at 5:45 p.m.

SHOREHAVEN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Youth in grades 7th & up (Confirmation Class and High School) are asked to go to Shorehaven on the 4th Sunday of the month to take the elderly to chapel.  Please sign up for November 22nd.

We meet here at church at 9:00 a.m. and return about 12:15 p.m.  Bring $ if you’d like to stop to eat on the way back. One or two parents are also needed to go and be the driver.  Please sign up on the youth board in the hallway for which day/month you are able to go.   Confirmation students will get service hours for this.  This is also a good volunteer activity to put on your Nat’l Honor Society sheets and your college applications for community service.

THANKSGIVING EVE WORSHIP

On Wednesday, Nov. 25th, will be our Thanksgiving Worship at 7:00 p.m.  Come and worship with your family and bring canned or non-perishable food items or paper products as part of your offering.  Youth will have the opportunity to take the items to the food pantry at a later date and help to sort & stock the shelves.

MAPLE SYRUP

Want to learn how to tap trees for syrup?  Youth & adults will have the opportunity to work with Roger Johnson and learn all about it.  It will begin by cutting and hauling firewood in the winter on a weekend day after the snow falls. Then in March when the oak leaves are as big as squirrel ears, the tapping will begin.  It will be done for approx. 4-5 weeks on Saturdays throughout March into early April.    We will need approx. 6-8 youth to collect and carry sap each Sat. morning and then one or two are needed to tend the cooksite.   Shifts will be set up and you can sign up to help at the shift most convenient for you.  You will be shown what to do and parents are welcome to participate.  Look for more details in the following “Caller” newsletters and sign up on the Youth Board in the hallway.  Thank God for maple syrup when you eat pancakes and waffles with syrup.

Do I Have Your Email Address??
Hey, I like to get e-mail here at Church  youth@st-olaf.org and if you’d like to know what’s going on here at church and would like to get an e-mail message about it, send me your e-mail so I can send you an e-mail.  I already have some of them, so if I do, just send me a message anyway.  And check your mailbox downstairs as you enter the Youth Center .

Thinking of you, Justine
