Youth News for January, 2009

Hey Confirmation Class –

Get ready for an exciting retreat at the YOUTH QUAKE in WISCONSIN DELLS at the Wilderness – What is the QUAKE?  It’s a fun filled get-away weekend with awesome inspirational speakers, great performers or Christian bands, group sessions for you to choose from to attend, evening family time with our class, swimming and hanging out with hundreds of other teens from all over.

Read all the info given to you at Confirmation Class and remember to hand in your permission slips, medical forms and registration fee to Justine by Sunday, Jan. 4th.  We will meet at St. Olaf at 4:00 on Friday, Jan 9th and return at approximately 1:30 on Sunday, Jan 11th.  Any questions, call Justine.

Souper Bowl of Caring –

Sunday, Feb 1st is the day most people like to watch the Super Bowl game and enjoy food and fun with family and friends.  It’s also another day marked to remember those who are not able to provide enough food for their families, so therefore, we again will take part in the National Souper Bowl of Caring, when we collect dollars and canned goods to help our local food pantries at a time when it is so critical to help those in need.

Sat. Jan 31st will be our service blitz day that goes along with the Souper Bowl of Caring and volunteer some time to help those in need.  All youth in Confirmation class and up, and their families are encouraged to participate.  Details of what we will be doing will be given to you in class and in the Sunday bulletin.

“Tecies” – Are your calendars marked for another faith filled weekend at TEC, (Teens Encounter Christ)?  Those of you that are serving on team will need to be at Immanuel Lutheran in Watertown at 6:00 p.m. on Thurs, Feb. 5th.  We can meet at St. Olaf at 5:00 and carpool.  Refer to your information packet that will be sent to you for details and for what to bring.  Check out the website www.badgertec.org

Remember, training for new team members is Sat. Jan. 17 from 9:30 -12:00 Noon .  Meet here at 8:30 for a ride.  All team training is Sat. Jan 24th 9:30 – 3:00 .  Meet here at 8:30 for a ride and bring $3.00 for pizza for lunch.

Those high school youth that would like to attend the weekend need to fill out an application ASAP.  Get an application from the Youthboard and return to Justine.  Call Justine if you have questions, (262)224-5048.

Retreat for High School youth -  Sat. Feb. 28 to Sunday, March 1 to Powderhorn Ski Resort and stay at Jon & Carol Evert’s home.  Carol volunteered to do the cooking for us and I know she’s a good cook.    Due to basketball games on Friday night, we will leave EARLY at 4:00 a.m. on Sat. so we can get there in time to ski the whole day.  Don’t like skiing or snowboarding, there’s tubing, skating, and swimming.  We’ll return Sunday evening so bring your homework with you if you want.  Get a permission slip and medical form from the youthboard and return to Justine by Sunday, Feb. 15th or sooner.  Cost for the lift ticket for two days, plus food and transportation is $135.00; if you need to rent equipment, that will be about $56.00 extra for the two days.

Shorehaven Volunteers needed:  for Sunday, Jan. 25th and the 4th Sundays of the months of Feb.  March and April.  We will meet here at 9:00 a.m. and we will return at 12:30 .  Again, bring $ to stop for lunch on the way home if you’d like.   Sign up on the Youthboard and any parent that would like to go and be a driver, please sign up or let Justine know.  This is a great service project and families are encouraged to sign up and take part together.

Do I Have Your Email Address??

Hey, I like to get e-mail here at Church  youth@st-olaf.org and if you’d like to know what’s going on here at church and would like to get an e-mail message about it, send me your e-mail so I can send you an e-mail.  I already have some of them, so if I do, just send me a message anyway.  And check your mailbox downstairs as you enter the Youth Center .

Thinking of you, Justine
